Evening Guild

Cardonald Evening Branch

At one time, there was only one Guild branch in Cardonald Church and it met in the afternoon. Most of those who attended found the time of the meeting both convenient and preferrable to attending an evening gathering.

However, several ladies who wanted to be part of the Guild movement were also in daytime employment and, consequently, could not attend meetings held in the afternoon. Demand grew for meetings to take place in the evening. The solution was to create a second branch of the Guild. The original branch was renamed the Afternoon Guild and the new branch was called the Evening Guild.

The Evening Guild was established in 1981 as a branch of the Church of Scotland Guild (then known as the Woman's Guild).

Keeping Track

When we are in session, we list on this page the date and time of our next meeting. When there are no meetings for the session, the "Next meeting ... " box will show "No events found."

Once our syllabus is published, it too will be accessible from this page.

Cardonald Parish Church now has two branches affliliated to the national body: the Afternoon Guild and the Evening Guild. While we share the same aims as our sister branch, each is run separately and organised by its own committee and has its own syllabus. Some events are jointly arranged to suit both branches.

The Evening Guild has the same aims as our sister branch but, from October to March, we meet every Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Session Room. Our syllabus consists of a variety of speakers and varied subjects. We also have a Group Night once a month, which involves a Singing Group and a Craft Group.

We too support the Guild Projects, plus our own special project of Erskine Hospital and, of course, our own Church.

If you share our aims and would value a Monday evening meeting, we would be delighted to have you join us. Some of our members are also members of the Afternoon Guild, so it is quite possible to belong to both branches!

The President of the Evening Guild is Mrs Claire Mackie.

Afternoon Branch

Cardonald Parish Church has another branch of the Church of Scotland Guild. The Afternoon Guild meets on a Thursday at 2 p.m. They have a separate programme from ours.

Guild Aim

Our Evening Guild is part of the Church of Scotland Guild, a national organisation with its headquarters in Edinburgh. Its aim is to keep its members well-informed of the work of the Church (Social Care, Mission and World Mission), and of the Guild, and its support of that work through Worship, Fellowship and Action.
